Here we explain the Who, What, and Why of Chelation Therapy.

What is Chelation?

The term "chelate" is derived from the Greek word "chele," which means "claw" or "pincer," and it describes the way the IV solution used, binds to the metal ion like a claw or pincer grasping an object. There are no known SAFE levels of heavy metals in our body.

Why do Chelation Therapy?

It is well known that heavy metals are TOXIC. Serum blood levels only show acute exposure and is not a good reference for tissue and bone levels of these metals. The body struggles with the ability to make these toxins water soluble so they can be excreted through urine, feces, sweat, ect so they are taken out of rotation within the blood, and deposited into our bone and tissues.

The number one reason to chelate is to reduce this level of toxic metals in the body. We live in a world full of toxic exosures to heavy metals. Aluminum is in our deoderant, lead pipes carry many of our water sources. Our bodies are under constant, chronic assult from heavy metals in everything from the air we breath, the water we drink and even the mattresses we lay on.

Exposure to heavy metals can occur through contaminated food, water, air, occupational settings, and many consumer products. The health effects of heavy metals depend on factors like the type of metal, the level of exposure, and an individual's susceptibility. Some common symptoms of heavy metal overload are broken down by metal below:

  1. Lead: Can harm the nervous system, especially in children, causing developmental delays and cognitive issues. It can also affect the blood, kidneys, and reproductive system.

  2. Mercury: Damages the nervous system, leading to memory problems and tremors. It can also harm the cardiovascular system, kidneys, and immune system.

  3. Arsenic: Causes skin lesions, cardiovascular problems, diabetes, and an increased risk of certain cancers.

  4. Cadmium: Harms the kidneys, lungs, bones, and hormonal functions.

  5. Nickel: Can cause skin allergies and respiratory irritation.

  6. Chromium: Hexavalent chromium is a carcinogen and can increase the risk of lung cancer. It can also cause skin issues.

  7. Aluminum: Excessive exposure may be linked to neurological disorders like Alzheimer's disease.

Any removal of toxic metals is better than none.
